The Eyes They See & The Eyes They See

ree

Beneath the veil of human skin lies a tangled web of desires and darkness, where sins wear the faces of men. Greed gleams like emerald in their eyes, Envy festers beneath the surface, Lust coils around them, Wrath burns like fire in their veins, Sloth lingers, and Attachment binds them to what they cannot release. These sins breathe, walk, and speak and are

BEINGS LIVING INSIDE LIVING BEINGS

PRIDE

Pride is often considered the most brutal sin as it is the root of other sins and corrupts the virtues of humility and gratitude. Pride is depicted with a commanding presence, characterized by a strong pose and dark skin tone. His blue eyes, fixed away from the picture, exude self-assuredness and arrogance. This posture reinforces Pride's aloofness and sense of superiority

GREED

Greed is depicted with vibrant green eyes and

mocking, triumphant laugh directed towards Lust, who is positioned at the top of the image. Greed's posture and expression convey a sharp contrast with Lust's unsettling presence. This dynamic highlights Greed's relentless desire for elevation and accumulation, emphasizing its insatiable quest for power and success, to be at the top of the frame and to become a sinister sin

ENVY

Envy is portrayed with piercing yellow eyes, brimming with jealousy, as it gazes at Pride. This vivid coloration underscores Envy's intense and consuming desire to surpass Pride, highlighting the destructive nature of jealousy. Envy's expression and posture reflect a deep-seated longing and resentment, creating a stark contrast with Pride's confident demeanor, thereby emphasizing the tension and conflict between these two vices

LUST

Lust is depicted with striking magenta eyes that radiate an intense, almost hypnotic allure. This figure is captured in a dramatic pose, clutching Anger’s head with a possessive grip while simultaneously concealing

itself behind that figure. The magenta eyes suggest an irresistible yet dangerous attraction, while the act of hiding behind another's head symbolizes the manipulative and consuming nature of lust

ANGER

Anger is depicted with one eye blazing red in fury while the other is clouded, symbolizing a loss of clarity and control. As Lust's hand grips Anger's head, the clouded eye reflects the blinding effect of rage, obscuring reason and judgment. This contrast between the fiery red eye and the obscured one vividly captures the destructive impact of anger when manipulated or provoked, highlighting the internal conflict and chaos that ensue

SLOTH

Sloth is depicted as a figure whose profound lethargy causes him to slide out of the frame, illustrating his disengagement and detachment from the scene. His eyes are a fading blue, almost turning grey, reflecting his deep indifference and exhaustion. This visual representation emphasizes Sloth's passive nature and reluctance to confront the surrounding vices, underscoring the isolating and debilitating effects of his inertia

ATTACHMENT

As the painting brings the vicious sins out from the family, it also illustrates the artist's struggle to hold on to personal attachments. The teddy bear represents comfort and nostalgiathings we are reluctant to let go of. A scar representing 1111 below the thumb shows the hope of reuniting with that comfort and nostalgia

WHY IS THE TITLE "THE EYES THEY SEE & THE EYES THEY SEE"

In this family photo, no one is looking in front; they are either looking at each other's eyes or looking somewhere else, showcasing the dominance of their sins. Secondly, it talks about the viewer who looks at this piece and tries to perceive the information that the family is giving.

WHAT'S THAT ON TEDDY'S FACE?

It’s okra sticking on its face, following a personal story attached.

WHY LUST CHOOSES ANGER EVEN WHEN HE'S THE OLDEST AND LEAST APPEALING?

Lust's dominance over Anger emphasizes how desire can overshadow and manipulate us to corrupt.

WHY ARE THEY NOT WEARING ANY CLOTHES?

The absence of clothing emphasizes the raw, unfiltered nature of each vice. Naked figures also evoke a timeless quality, suggesting that the struggles with these vices are ageless and intrinsic to the human condition
